Comprehensive Plan Committee

Responsibilities

The Comprehensive Plan Committee is comprised of Harrington residents and City Employees recommended by the Mayor and confirmed by a majority of City Council.

The Comprehensive Planning Committee’s role to guide the update of The City of Harrington’s Comprehensive Plan, setting forth the long-term vision and development blueprint for the city. They oversee the planning process, engage the public, and identify key goals regarding land use, housing, and infrastructure. It involves establishing goals for the future of a municipal government, analyzing current and projected conditions, and laying out steps that may help a municipality reach its goals. Harrington staff, elected officials, and volunteers thoroughly reviewed the existing comprehensive plan, updated critical information and policy statements, and contracted for professional planning and design assistance in completing the drafting, mapping, public participation, and intergovernmental coordination steps.

To comply with Delaware code, Harrington must perform a comprehensive re-write of its plan at a ten-year interval.
