Harrington Parks & Recreation Fall Soccer program is designed to get our youth up and moving! Ages are from 6–13. Registration for Indoor Soccer are now open with practice beginning in January (coaches discretion on day and time). The youth play 6 games, which are played on Saturdays starting in January and lasting through late February/Early March.

Our Co-ed Little Spartans Basketball program combines team play and individual skills in a fun and supportive environment through our basketball leagues, clinics, or classes. Kids can develop their basketball skills including passing, receiving, shooting, footwork and dribbling. This is a great way for our youth to learn fundamentals and skill development in a safe and supervised environment. Not only will they have an opportunity to improve their technique, but they’ll also build social skills, gain confidence and develop leadership skills.
Ages are from 5 years old to 13 years old. Registration for youth basketball is now open with sessions beginning in mid December and ending in February. The youth practice/play for 8 weeks on Saturday mornings. We do not play over Christmas and New Years.
Responsible for planning, organizing, and conducting recreation programs for all ages, including youth and adult sport leagues, community interest classes, cultural programs, and special events under the direction of the City Manager.
On Saturday, August 29, 2026, Mayor Frank Tolson, Vice Mayor Darrin Simpson and employees of the City of Harrington were excited to celebrate the Grand Opening of one of our newest businesses, Glow Aesthetics. Located at 210 Shaw Ave in Harrington, the shop is owned by licensed Aesthetician Elizabeth Murphy.

On Friday, September 18, 2026, City Officials gathered to officially open the City of Harrington Park and dedicate the refurbished former National Guard facility to former State Representative Robert “Bobby’ Outten. Representative Outten was instrumental in acquiring both the building, as well as funding for the project.
Six years in planning and construction, the nearly 1.6 million dollar project boast three outdoor pickleball courts, an outdoor basketball court, a 1/2 mile walking trail, a covered pavilion, and a 9800 sq ft multipurpose facility for indoor programs and events, a large playground for children, dog waste stations, and even a lending library. Three restrooms will soon be completed, providing additional amenities to the park. Both the indoor facility and pavilion are available for rental to the public. The pavilion, when not rented, is available on a first come, first serve bases. The outdoor areas are open from Dawn to Dusk. The indoor facility also has four indoor pickelball courts for use during daytime operational hours, these are include with your adult fitness membership to HPR.

AN ORDINANCE REZONING CERTAIN PARCELS AND AMENDING THE ZONING MAP OF THE CITY OF HARRINGTON
This Ordinance rezones the parcels listed in Section 1 as part of a comprehensive rezoning project to align property zoning to the Future Land Use Map adopted as part of the Comprehensive Land Use Plan. It also amends the Zoning Map for the City of Harrington to reflect the rezoning of the properties listed in Section 1.

This year’s city event, Trail of Treats, will be held on Monday, October 26, 2026 from 5pm to 7pm. And at a new location, the “Haunted Trail” at Harrington Parks & Recreation! The address is 114 E. Liberty St in Harrington.

Last evening at our City Council Meeting, the City of Harrington proudly hosted the swearing-in ceremony of Chief of Police Joseph Perna.
The evening was filled with recognition and appreciation for Chief Perna’s dedicated to public service. Vice Mayor Darrin Simpson presented a tribute on behalf of Mayor Frank Tolson and City Council, honoring Chief Perna’s commitment to the Harrington community.
Chief Perna was also presented with the Department Commendation Award by the Harrington Police Department. Additional recognitions included a proclamation from the Office of the Governor, read by Police Resource Manager Jenn Anderson; a tribute from the Delaware House of Representatives, presented by Lieutenant L.B. Stubbs; and a proclamation presented by Kent County Levy Court President Commissioner Joanne Masten and Vice President Commissioner Robert Scott.
We extend our sincere congratulations to Chief Joe Perna and wish him continued success as he leads the Harrington Police Department. Thank you to all who attended and helped make this special occasion a memorable one.
